Where can I find out details pertaining to taking classes at other colleges in Pittsburgh?
Hi.  I have recently been admitted into the school of Arts and Sciences/Business Duel Major.  When I came to visit the University of Pittsburgh my tour guide told us about a program offered that allows us to take classes at other schools in Pittsburgh, if the University does't offer them.  I dance and am curious about if this was at all possible for me to do with Point Park University, so that I could continue dancing while attending this prestigious university.  I looked online to find out more details but could not find any information on this program, so please let me know if this is at all possible or not, or lead me in the direction to research more about this program.  Thanks for your time!

How can I find my major GPA?
Answer:
You will have to figure it out by using the information on the "Student Handbook" section of www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate to calculate the GPA in only your major courses.

Will taking more than one IFN also fulfill an IF? OR do you have to take 3 exclusively IF courses and only one IFN?
Answer:
Most courses that are approved for IFN are also approved for IF BUT there are a few exceptions.  If the course shows that it is REG, COM or GLO and also IFN, you can use it for an IF and IFN as well.   If you already have the IFN satisfied, it will still do the IF.  BUT you must make sure that the three IF course you take are not all the same:  ie All Reg, All Com or All Glo.

Tuition effect of taking greater than 18 credits
I wanted to know, I often find myself limited because my courseload happens to require 19 credits, one shy of the limit. I know I can go to the Dean's office for permission, but what about tuition. I am an out of state student so, does one more credit mean I will be paying the per-credit tuition? (~$900/cr) on top of full-time? Thanks
Answer:
Hello, I am a Peer Advisor here at Pitt at the Arts and Sciences Undergraduate Advising Office. For the additional 19th credit you do need permission as you know, and on the Tuition Fees website it says per credit for out of state is $960. http://www.ir.pitt.edu/tuition/pghosfirst.htm In addition to this there might be additional fees from the university but $960 would be the cost of the additional credit. If you have any follow up questions feel free to IM back and someone will respond, even if there is no one currently signed on. Sorry for the delay in response to your question, I am guessing it is because we were on Spring Break last week. Thank you!

Do you accept this course?
Hi, I need to take a microbiology course over the summer and I can't seem to find one to take that is nearby.  I was looking online and found a totally online 4 credit  microbiology course at a college in Ocean County College  in New Jersey.  Online reviews said it was a really good course to take, I just need to buy a lab kit, which includes a microscope, slides, etc.  The course name is Microbiology (BIOL 232) with Dr.  J Brown.  I want to know if this class will transfer for the microbiology class I need to apply for the nursing program.   I hope you can help! Thank you,Rachael
Answer:
Hi Rachael, You will need to check with our School of Nursing to find out if they will accept the course.  Each school in the University of Pittsburgh makes its own decitions about course transfers.  You will most likely need to provide a course description for them.

Transfer Credit Evaluation
Hello,   I am currently a freshman at Penn State University (main), and I recently applied to the School of Arts and Sciences at the Pitt (main) for the fall '10. I have about 50 credits and I wish to bring as many as possible with me to Pitt. However, I do not know how many coincide with the classes offered at Pitt - how many will be accepted. This will, a great deal, affect my decision. How might I go about checkind them?   Thanks, Patrick
Answer:
Thank you for your message.  Without looking at your transcript it's not possible to say which credits will transfer and which will not.  If you decide to transfer, then you will need to send your official transcript to the School of Arts and Sciences Office of Student Records.  Student Records will evaluate your transcript and let you know what these classes are equivalent to at Pitt.  You will then be assigned an academic advisor.  During the first appointment with your new advisor, you will review the information you received from Student Records and decide upon future courses.  Here is the contact information for Student Records: http://www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate/offices/student-records.html And here is more detailed information about the transfer process: http://www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate/audience/transfers/index.html

Should you take web-based classes? Does this have any effect on your grade or transcript?
Answer:
Grades for web-based courses are no different than for other courses. However, the School of Arts and Sciences limits students to a maximum of two self-paced and/or web-based courses taken at Pitt in the 120 credits required for their degree. When taking a web-based or self-paced course it is very important that you pace yourself and do a good job of managing the time that you put into the course. That is something very important to keep in mind when considering such a course.

Internal Transfer
Hello, My name is Cheryl Boyd-Abner and I am a psychology major here at Pitt-Bradford.  I am interested in relocating to the Oakland campus in the fall of 2010. (I also have a twin sister who is inquiring the same information not to get us confused).I would like to be able to have someone review my courses to-date, and to advise me on courses that I should take this spring prior to coming to Oakland. Thank you and sincerely,Cheryl Boyd-Abner
Answer:
Hello, Cheryl, Thank you for your question.  Please note that this reply applies to the question submitted by both you and your sister.  To begin, please consult our Web page that outlines transfer requirements from a regional campus: http://www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate/audience/transfers/admissions.html#internal Once your transfer is approved you will have a one-on-one appointment with an Arts & Sciences advisor who will explain the progress you've made toward the Arts & Sciences General Education Requirements as well an Arts & Sciences major.  For more information about majors, minors, and certificates, please consult this Web site: http://www.as.pitt.edu/undergraduate/advising/majors-minors.html You should speak with your current advisor at Pitt Bradford about relevant classes for the spring semester.  Thanks for your interest and good luck.

advising question
Hello! I am a psychology major at Harrisburg Area Community College and I have just recently met with my advisor and she told me to contact someone at Pitt about what classes are recommended to transfer.  I graduate in the Spring and would like to transfer to Pitt next fall.  Spring registration is coming up next month and I wanted to find out what electives and core C sciences Pitt prefers.  I'm not sure if you need to see a list of classes I have already had, if so, I can send that to you. Thanks so much for your help, Cassie Crum
Answer:
Hi Cassie, We would need to see all the classes that you are registered for and what you have taken in order to answer this properly.  Then it would be an informal answer until you actually apply.  When you apply, a course evaluation will be done at that time and you will know for certain what you need.  Right now, we are in the first weeks of our registration period so all advisors have been very busy.  I apologize for the delay.  When you send the information, if you include course descriptions, that would be helpful.

How do I get a hold removed?

Answer:

A “hold” means that you need to take care of some unfinished business. A service indicator symbol in PeopleSoft will appear on your record if you have a hold. Click on the symbol to find out which office put the hold on your account. You will need to call or visit the office that placed the hold on your account to handle the matter.
